Kingdom: Protista
Phylum: Phaeoophyta
Class: phaeophyceae
Order: Dictyotales
Family: Dictyotaceae
Genus: Padina
Protists are a large and diverse kingdom, such as that of the aniamlaea. Some are plant-like, animal-like, and fungi-like organisms. All protist are eukaryotic. The classification of this kingdom are unsettled because of inaccurate representation of their evolutionary relationships. Protists can be either autotrophs or heterotrophs and have various types of locomotion. They can have cilia, hair-like fibers, flagella, tail-like structures and pseudopodia, a false foot.
Padina pavonica thivy or commonly known as peacocks tail alga is a macroalga found in the Indian river lagoon. Brown to tan in color and found in fan-like clusters, and warm temperatures. On the east coast from North Carolina to Florida, the Gulf of Mexico, and throughout the Carribean. Usually found on rocks in the lower intertidal zone to 20m. They reproduce haplodiploticly, meaning they alternate haploid gametes and diploid spores.
